Fatal Crash in Aitkin

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to a fatal vehicle accident involving 4 different vehicles on Friday October 4th in Aitkin. At around 5:15 in the evening, located at Highway 169 and Grove Street, a Chevy Suburban was traveling eastbound pulling a trailer on County Road 3 when it failed to stop at the stop sign for Highway 169. Meanwhile, a GMC Yukon was travelling north on Highway 169 when it struck the east bound Suburban, causing severe damage.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Dodge Ram were also involved and the Ram, which was also pulling a trailer, were facing westbound and waiting when they were also struck by the Yukon, causing moderate damage. The driver of the Suburban, 61-year-old Roger Walker of Minnetonka suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. Two passengers in the Suburban 61-year-old Elizabeth Baldwin and 92-year-old Marlo Baldwin were killed in the crash. The Driver of the Yukon 44-year-old Lisa Melberg of Zimmerman suffered life threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to HCMC. 2 passengers in the Yukon Robert Davidson 18 of Zimmerman and Carly Melberg 11 of Zimmerman suffered life threatening injuries and were transported to HCMC. Another passenger of the Yukon 18-year-old Ally Melberg suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The lone

occupants of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Dodge Ram were not injured in the accident. According to o the Minnesota State Patrol the roads were dry at the time of the crash and alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the crash. All individuals involved except for one were wearing seatbelts. The Minnesota State Patrol were assisted on scene by the Hill City Police Department and the Aitken County Sheriff's Office.
